BOOK REVIEW FOR JANUARY : Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer

:Priscilla Shirer

DESCRIPTION from the back of the book (sounds like a good Southern Gospel Song to me):

You have an enemy . . . and he's dead set on destroying all you hold dear. He does it specifically.
He's doing it right this minute, in fact-aimed at personally drawn targets on your heart, your home,
your mind, your life.

And this book, this battle plan, is your chance to fight back. With a weapon that really works. With prayer.

New New York Times bestselling author Priscilla Shirer brings her new role from the War Room into the real
life, addressing the topics that affect them most: your identity, your family, your regrets, your pressures,
your temptations, your fears, your attitudes, and more. Each chapter exposes the enemy's cruel, cunning
intentions against you in all kinds of key areas like these, then coaches you in crafting your own personalized
prayer strategies on included tear-out sheets-ready to post them and pray them, anywhere you can put them
into active deployment. Because the truth is: Victories don't happen by accident.

Fervent is a hands-on, knees-down, never-give-up action guide to practical, purposeful praying.

Hawa-ya-doin' Green Tea by Steeped Tea

So how are you doing as you enter into the New Year? Well here is a tea and a book that'll get you off
to a great start! This Green tea has genmaicha (green tea, puffed rice), coconut flakes, pineapple bits
(pineapple, sugar, acidifier: citric acid), papaya bits, ginger bits, pink peppercorns, bamboo leaves,
and spices. If you've had green tea at a chinese restaurant this tea will remind you of that, only I think
it's even better. It's refreshing, yet calming, and add a little German Rock Sugar (my favorite tea
sweetener from Teavana) and you'll have the perfect cup of green tea to sit back and be ready for battle
(yep, that's what the book is all about!).

Where to get this tea:

We are in battle people! It's a hard truth. It's a new year, and it means new battles, so let's be prepared.
I love one of the first things you see in the book. It's a quote from "Lord of the Rings." It says
"Theoden: I will not risk open war--Aragorn: Open war is upon you, whether you would risk it or not"
Whoa! That is some seriously powerful words there that ring true today! If you haven't seen the movie
"The War Room," you need to. I recently watched it and at first was like well its ok, then the prayer
happens, and the final prayer of the movie to this moment brings me to tears! Go watch, rent, buy.
Then let's get to business with this book!

"Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth." This is a reminder that prayer isn't
some whimsical thing, or just us saying something in passing to Jesus. When you go through the Old
Testement, when did things happen? When they went to the Lord, made their sacrifice and seeked Him? How'd
they seek Him? By calling out His name in prayer . . . for a specific need. Boom! I don't know about you,
but more often than not my prayer life and my devotion life gets put on the back burner when I think there
just isn't enough time. One of those always seems to be pushed aside. And I personally hate that. What
purpose am I really here on this earth for? To figure out what the next book should be? To work or sell
nail wraps? No, it's to share Jesus, to do what He has for me. Now if I get to do those others things,
too, great! But we as Christians have to take up our true weapons, put on our real armor, and be ready and
prepared to fight. Fight daily, fight every second. And God gave us prayer as one of the greatest
supernatural powers to fight back with. Priscilla shares about how her grandmother was a true prayer
warrior and how she shared the way to truly fight in prayer. Because it's a battle and we need to have
strategies. She focuses on ten areas that the devil attacks in and then she has ten strategies of how
to fight back. The first being, getting our passion back. How many of us are tired, how many of us just
have no get-up-and-go? If you're not raising your hand at this moment, I'm going to assume you have a
hand cramp and that's why you didn't. The thing is we often, I included, say that's just life. But you
know what? It isn't! That's the devil, he's fighting against you. The other areas are your focus, your
identity, your Family. Ok let me stop there for a moment. Your Family. I have an amazing family,
but guess what? They're being attacked daily. Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, so
why I haven't I taken up my sword to fight with them? The chapter on your family is so important because
we are family and we need to fight together to win. Priscilla also talks about your past, your fears,
your purity, your pressures, your hurts and then lastly, on your relationships.

At the end of each chapter, it has you create a specific, strategic prayer and write it out. I loved this!
Each prayer was specific to that chapter and what you're fighting against. Sometimes we need that push to
do that. Priscilla reminds us that prayer is supposed to be an eye-opening experience. You're talking to
God, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the one we should fear and be humble before. Not just some
magic-making, potion-pouring wizard. He's THE GOD, the one, the only, and He wants us to remember we are
fighting a spiritual battle. It's not our circumstance, our culture, our upbringing, our friends, our
families that are the problems. The problem is the devil and sin, it is the nature of the world and
the consequences of that sin! And we have to fight against it with the only power that works-God's
power! My favorite verse is Romans 8:28 (go grab your Bible to highlight this), God can use these attacks,
these "problems" to help us grow, but if we aren't willing to acknowledge Him and also acknowledge what
the devil does we won't grow, we won't make it through, because we are giving into the blinders that the
devil puts around you. So what is holding you back now? Which of the ten areas do you think you'd need
the most help with? I found gold nuggets in each chapter, but guess what happened? I got distracted.
It took me longer to finish this book then it EVER should have. Why? Uhhh hello? The devil! And the fact
that I didn't fight him to get back into it. So I knew this was the perfect first book of 2017 to be talking
about and I made sure I finished the book. And I made sure I created those strategic prayers for the new year.
And it's now up to me to carry on that battle with the devil. Will you join me?

My final opinion and score for this book will get 5 stars.? I have it on my kindle but I'd highly recommend
getting the actual book as it has tear outs you can you use and areas to write notes. I wish you all a wonderful
new year and pray that we can stand together and fight and win each battle so when it's all said and done
(and we already know we win) we can look back and say "Yep, I fought well and I have scars that I'm happy
to share that prove it, because I fought for my Father!"
